This is the story of flight, like you have never seen it before.
All The Pilots is an new kind of story on which I have been working for many years. It tells the tale of Red, a young American who falls in love with airplanes in the earliest days of flight, and whose life is defined by the extraordinary one-hundred year evolution of aviation.
Like a Forrest Gump of the air, Red’s adventures take him around the world, involve him in the defining moments of the twentieth-century, and introduce him to a global cast of characters all united by their common love of flight. You can start Red’s lifelong story here.
What makes this story unique is that I tell it all through the model airplanes I built as a kid, which I recently discovered in boxes in my dad’s basement, and which I am photographing in the beautiful light of my San Francisco back yard. You can see how I’m doing it here.

My dear flying friend, I have a story for you. At the time I was born, not so very long ago, no one had ever flown on an airplane. Now, you can jump on a jet and be anyplace on earth in the time it takes to tell this story.
Time machines? We’ve had them for a century. They’re called airplanes. And I love every one of them.
This is the story I’ve wanted to tell my whole life, and now, finally, I know how to tell it: with the model airplanes I started building as a kid.
So please, sit back, buckle up, and prepare to join in an epic of the air, told in a way you’ve never seen before. If you look and listen close, I promise you’ll find yourself up here among the clouds. And you’ll be home.
